Dr. Dace Zvirbulis is a board-certified neurologist and headache medicine specialist, who completed her neurology residency at Latvian Medical Academy, Riga, Latvia and additional neurology residency at Henry Ford Hospital, Detroit, MI.  

She is a Division Chief of Headache and Facial Pain Division Department of Neurology at Henry Ford Hospital and Assistant Professor of Neurology at Wayne State University.

Dr. Zvirbulis is passionate about providing comprehensive care for patients with headache disorders, including offering outpatient infusion treatments and office based procedures such as botulinum toxin injections and nerve blocks.

Dr. Nojan Bakthiari graduated from New York University College of Dentistry in 2011, followed by a 1-year General Practice Dentistry Program at Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center. He then completed a 2-year CODA-accredited Orofacial Pain program at New York University College of Dentistry. He started a private practice part time while teaching part time at Yale New Haven Hospital, Oral Surgery Department. Later on, he led the Orofacial Pain didactic and clinical curriculum at the University of Connecticut, School of Dental Medicine. Currently, he has an academic appointment at Columbia University but spends the majority of his time in his own private practice. His practice is one of the few ones which from its inception was limited to evidence-based care of temporomandibular disorders, orofacial pain and associated headaches. He also serves on the Board of Directors at the New York University Dentistry Alumni Association and the Executive Council of the American Academy of Orofacial Pain.

Dr. Konstantin Slavin is Professor and Chief of Section and Fellowship Director for Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery in the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC).

Dr. Slavin graduated from medical school in Baku, Azerbaijan in the Soviet Union and completed his neurosurgery residency in Moscow. He then completed his second neurosurgery residency at UIC and a fellowship in functional and stereotactic neurosurgery at Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland, Oregon.

Dr. Slavin is current President of the World Society for Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery and the Past President of the American Society for Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery. He is also the President-Elect of the International Neuromodulation Society (INS) and past Secretary of the North American Neuromodulation Society (NANS). For many years, he serves on the Medical Advisory Board of the Facial Pain Association, the premier patient organization for those who suffer from trigeminal neuralgia and other facial pain syndromes. In addition, he is on the Board of non profit organization “Neuromodulation Foundation”, the publisher of Wikistim, and for more than a decade was an Executive Committee member of the Joint Section on Pain of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and Congress of Neurological Surgeons.

Dr. Slavin has published in many books and peer-reviewed journals and is an associate editor or editorial board member for a number of publications, including Neuromodulation, Neurosurgery, Brain Sciences, Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery, Acta Neurochirurgica and others; he is the current editor-in-chief of Progress in Neurological Surgery. His first book on Peripheral Nerve Stimulation was published in 2011; another book, co-edited with Sam Eljamel on Neurostimulation: Practice and Principles, came out in 2013; the third one, Stimulation of Peripheral Nervous System: The Neuromodulation Frontier was released in 2015. The most recent – and most relevant for this audience – book on Neuromodulation for Facial Pain came out in 2021.

Dr. James Hawkins currently serves as Chair of the Orofacial Pain Center at the Naval Postgraduate Dental School (NPDS) in Bethesda, MD, as well as the Orofacial Pain Specialty Leader to the Navy Surgeon General. He completed a residency in Orofacial Pain at NPDS and received a Master’s Degree in Oral Biology from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in 2015. In 2017, he received a certificate in Medical Acupuncture from Helms Medical Institute. Dr. Hawkins is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orofacial Pain and the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine. His recent academic awards include the NPDS Dean’s Award for Teaching Excellence (2021) and the Walter Reed Associate Master Clinician Award (2021). Commander Abby Schmidt (USNR) – Dr. Schmidt served on Active Duty in the United States Navy for 11 years. During that time, she completed an Orofacial Pain residency at the Naval Postgraduate Dental School in 2018. In 2022, she moved back to her home state of Michigan and began private practice at the Michigan Center for Facial pain and Sleep in the metropolitan Detroit area. Commander Preston Criddle (USN) – Dr. Criddle serves as the Orofacial Pain Residency Program Director at the Naval Postgraduate Dental School, Naval Medical Leader and Professional Development Command, in Bethesda, MD. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orofacial Pain and a fellow of the American Academy of Orofacial Pain.

Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, Dr. Hargitai graduated from Case Western Reserve University, School of Dentistry in 1996. Dr. Luana Colloca is an MPower Distinguished Professor at the University of Maryland, Baltimore, and the Director of the Placebo Beyond Opinion Center at the University of Maryland School of Nursing. Dr. Colloca holds an MD, a master’s degree in Bioethics, and a PhD in Neuroscience. She completed her postdoctoral training at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden, and a senior research fellowship at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, USA.

Dr. Colloca has conducted studies on the behavioral, neural, and pharmacological mechanisms of pain modulation related to placebo and nocebo effects. Her lab has also developed an interest in virtual reality as a non-pharmacological approach to relieving pain and other symptoms. She has published in top-ranked international journals, including Biological Psychiatry, Annual Reviews of Pharmacology and Toxicology, Nature Reviews Rheumatology, Pain, Nature Neuroscience, JAMA, The Lancet Neurology, Science, and The New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM). Prof. Daniele Manfredini received his DDS from the University of Pisa, Italy in 1999, a MSc in Occlusion and Craniomandibular Disorders in 2001 from the same University, a PhD in Dentistry from the ACTA Amsterdam, The Netherlands, and a Post-Graduation Specialty in Orthodontics from the University of Ferrara, Italy. He achieved the Diplomate Status from the American Board of Orofacial Pain in 2021.

From 2006 to 2016, Daniele Manfredini has been Assistant Professor at the TMD Clinic, Department of Maxillofacial Surgery, University of Padova, Italy.

Since 2017, Daniele Manfredini has served as Professor at the School of Dentistry, Department of Medical Biotechnologies, University of Siena, Italy, where he holds teachings in Oral Physiology and in Clinical Gnathology. He is currently the Director of the Orofacial Pain Unit.

Daniele Manfredini authored more than 330 papers in the field of bruxism, orofacial pain, and temporomandibular disorders in journals indexed in the Medline database (Scopus H-index=65).

He is Member and Coordinator of the Bruxism Consensus Panel within the International Association for Dental Research, which works on the updated definition and classification strategies for bruxism and for which he currently serves in the INfORM Board of Directors.

Dr. Jan Dommerholt is co-founder and president/CEO of Myopain Seminars. His early career mentors included Drs. Janet Travell, David Simons, Robert Gerwin, Richard S. Materson, Karel Lewit, and Peter Baldry, among others. With Robert Gerwin, Jan started teaching dry needling courses in 1996, first in Spain and from 1997 onwards in the USA and the rest of the world.

Jan is a Dutch-trained physical therapist with a Master of Professional Studies degree with a concentration in Biomechanical Trauma and Healthcare Administration from Lynn University and a Doctorate in Physical Therapy from the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences.
Dr. Dommerholt has taught hundreds of courses and lectured at over 60 conferences throughout the United States, Canada, Central and South America, Europe, Australia, India, and the Middle East while maintaining an active clinical practice. Mojgan Hodaie is staff neurosurgeon at the Toronto Western Hospital with subspecialty training in stereotactic and functional neurosurgery and the surgical co-director of the Joey and Toby Tanenbaum Family Gamma Knife Centre at the Toronto Western Hospital. Dr. Hodaie holds the rank of Professor at the Department of Surgery, University of Toronto, and is a member of the largest functional neurosurgery team in Canada. She has expertise in all forms of neuromodulation including deep brain stimulation, spinal cord stimulation and baclofen pumps for the management of spasticity. Dr. Hodaie’s research focuses primarily on structural MRI imaging in functional neurosurgery, with a special focus in neuropathic pain. She has published key papers in the area focusing on methods of small fiber tractography and structural neuroanatomical changes in the CNS gray and white matter in facial neuropathic pain amongst other functional neurosurgical disorders.

Dr. Ailani is the Director of the Medstar Georgetown Headache Center, and Professor of Clinical Neurology at Medstar Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C. Dr. Ailani completed her Neurology training at NYU in New York, NY and a headache fellowship at the Jefferson Headache Center in Philadelphia, PA.

Dr. Ailani is on the board of the American Headache Society as treasurer and serves as the chair of the finance committee. She is an advisor to the National Headache Foundation. For the American Academy of Neurology, she is part of the division chiefs committee, and the Wolf award committee.

Andres Pinto DMD, MPH, MSCE, MBA, is a tenured Professor, Department Chair at Case Western Reserve University, and Associate Dean of Graduate Studies at the same institution. He holds secondary appointments as Professor of Medicine and Otolaryngology at the School of Medicine and directs the Oral Medicine Fellowship program at The Metrohealth System in Cleveland and the MSD programs at CWRU.

Dr. Pinto received a DMD from the University of Pennsylvania and residency training in Oral Medicine at the Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Penn Health System in Philadelphia. He completed additional education in Orofacial Pain and Dental Sleep Medicine at the University of Kentucky and Tufts University and residency training in Dental Public Health at the National Institutes of Health.

He is board certified by the American Board of Oral Medicine, the American Board
of Orofacial Pain, and the European Association of Oral Medicine, and holds Fellowships from

Dr. Beth Groenke has a B.S. in Interdisciplinary Engineering with a Biomedical Emphasis from Missouri University of Science and Technology, a D.D.S from the University of Missouri – Kansas City, and a certificate in Orofacial Pain and an M.S. in Dentistry from the University of Minnesota in the field of dental MRI. She has also completed the Earl E. Bakken Medical Devices Fellowship through the University of Minnesota, and she is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orofacial Pain.

Currently, Dr. Groenke practices general dentistry, uses her orofacial pain specialty training as founder/CEO of PhysiAroma, a MedTech start-up company developing a novel device to help manage chronic pain, and she performs dental MRI research with the team at the University of Minnesota.

Dr. Boggero is the Director of Psychological Services and Director of Research at the University of Kentucky Orofacial Pain Clinic. He also has joint appointments in Anesthesiology and in Psychology. He completed his undergraduate education at UCLA and obtained his Ph. D. in clinical psychology from the University of Kentucky, with a graduate certificate in biostatistics. After his Ph.D. he completed a two-year postdoctoral fellowship at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center where he worked with children and families with chronic pain. His research interests are in developing brief psychological interventions for improving pain, sleep, and fatigue in patients with chronic pain. His work has been funded by the NIH and the American Psychological Association among other organizations. He has over 100 publications or poster presentations, and has been invited to give talks across the country and the world on psychological management of chronic orofacial pain. He is currently working on an NIDCR K23 award which aims to develop a brief telehealth treatment for patient with chronic masticatory muscle pain.  In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with family, playing soccer, hiking, cooking, and reading. He would love to play you chess online (but he is not very good).

Dr. Dolwick is a world-renowned Oral and Maxillofacial surgeon specializing in the surgical treatment of temporomandibular disorders. He was a pioneer in the development of TMJ arthrography and surgical procedures for the treatment of TMJ internal derangement. Dr. Dolwick has served on several TMJ study committees for the American Dental Association, National Institutes for Dental Research and the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. Dr. Dolwick has published over 100 papers and co-authored four books.

Dr. Dolwick received his DMD from the University of Kentucky and his PhD and certification in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery from the Medical College of Virginia. Dr. Dolwick currently serves as a Professor and Academy 100 Eminent Scholar for the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Florida College of Dentistry. Most recently, he served as Chair until January 1, 2020. He formerly served as the Parker E. Mahan Facial Pain Endowed Professor, and as Residency Program Director. He is a full-tenured Professor for the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He serves as a member of the Craniofacial Cleft-Palate Team and with the Sleep Medicine Faculty. He is board-certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and is a member of the appropriate professional organizations. In 1993, he received the Research Recognition Award from the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Foundation for his research on temporomandibular disorders. In 2013, he received the Donald B. Osbon Outstanding Teacher Award by the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

His current research interest includes temporomandibular joint arthrocentesis, temporomandibular joint biomechanics and tissue engineering of the temporomandibular joint disk, office-based arthroscopy, total joint reconstruction, and treatment of temporomandibular joint internal derangement and osteoarthritis.

Mitchell Levine is associate professor of orthodontics at the University of North Carolina Adams School of Dentistry. He instructs residents on sleep disordered breathing, dentofacial deformities including surgical/orthodontic treatment planning, as well as supervises graduate orthodontic residents. He is a Diplomate of both the American Board of Orthodontics and American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine. A contributor to numerous scientific papers including the AAO White Paper on the Role of the Orthodontist and OSA, AADSM Standards for Dental Sleep Medicine, as well as the AADSM Novel Therapies for Preventing, Managing and Treating OSA in Adults and Children. As well, he is a reviewer for the American Journal of Orthodontics, Angle Orthodontist, Journal of Dental Sleep Medicine and Orthodontics and Craniofacial Research. Dr Ziccardi attended college at New York University where he received a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry. From there, he attended Columbia University and earned his dental degree. Upon graduation from Columbia, he was accepted into the integrated MD/Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency training program at the University of Pittsburgh where he earned his MD degree and certificate in oral and maxillofacial surgery. It was during this time working with faculty in both the oral and maxillofacial surgery and Neurosurgery departments that he gained interest and experience in the management of trigeminal nerve injuries.

Upon completion of training, Dr Ziccardi took a position as Assistant Professor and Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City. He worked at this institution until taking a position at his current home at Rutgers School of Dental Medicine in 1997. While working in New Jersey, he was initially made residency program director in 1998 and ultimately Chair of the department and Chief of Dental Medicine at University Hospital in 2001. He is presently tenured Professor at the University and holds a co-terminus position in the Division of Plastic Surgery.

During his career, areas of clinical interest and research have included trigeminal nerve microsurgery, cleft lip and palate reconstruction and complex reconstructive surgery. Dr. Ziccardi is extensively published and nationally recognized expert in trigeminal nerve microsurgery and speaker within this subject matter. He continues to serve as Chair and Chief of Service within University Hospital and Associate Dean of Hospital Affairs as well as the Director of the Craniofacial Center at University Hospital.

Michael Glick is the Fields-Raynat Professor and Executive Director, Center for Integrative Global Oral Health, School of Dental Medicine, University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Glick has an extensive publication record, including original research articles, editorials, and book chapters, and has authored, edited and co-edited 12 textbooks.
Dr. Glick is past Dean, School of Dental Medicine, University at Buffalo, past-President of the American Board of Oral Medicine, served as Editor-in-Chief of The Journal of the American Dental Association from 2005 to 2020, and was chair and principal author of FDI/World Dental Federation’s Vision 2020 and Vision 2030.

Richard Ohrbach earned a D.D.S. (University of North Carolina—Chapel Hill), certificate in pain management (University of California–Los Angles), M.S. in Oral Sciences and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology (University at Buffalo), and a post-doctoral fellowship in behavioral epidemiology (University of Washington). As a member of the teaching faculty, his mentoring with students focuses on the development of independent thought grounded in rigorous use of methodology. As a member of the research faculty, he has pursued several research objectives. One objective has been the development of new diagnostic standards for temporomandibular disorders (TMDs) as well as the development of other assessment tools related to pain or function. These standards, development supported by NIDCR and now internationally recognized, for both researchers and health professionals comprises an improved screening tool, validated diagnostic criteria, and improved psychosocial assessment tools. A second objective, via the OPPERA studies of painful TMDs, has focused on identification and understanding of risk determinants for initial onset, transition to chronicity, and maintenance of chronicity. A third objective, more recently, has focused on the application of ontological principles to better depictions of clinical reality – for example, mechanisms underlying co-morbidity within the chronic overlapping pain conditions, and the bidirectional relationship between behavior and physical structure-based interoception. Dr. Ohrbach is a member of the American Academy of Orofacial Pain, United States Association for the Study of Pain, and International Association for the Study of Pain.

Dr. Reisner joined the faculty of UCSF in 1987 as a Pharmacy Practice Resident and has served in various roles since that time, including as a lecturer in Clinical Pharmacy and Dentistry courses and as a clinical pharmacist for the UCSF Pain Management Center. She has also been a research pharmacist for the UCSF Pain Clinical Research Center as well as a consultant to the Center for TMD and Orofacial Pain in the UCSF School of Dentistry. She currently serves on various medication-related committees at UCSF Medical Center and enjoys her role as a preceptor for students and residents. Lori is a member of several professional organizations, including the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP), the American Pain Society (APS), and the International Society for the Study of Pain (IASP). Dr. Reisner has been involved in the development of a pain traineeship with the American Society of Health-system Pharmacists (ASHP) and has served at different times on the Board of Directors, the Scientific Program Committee and the Task Force for Centers of Excellence in Pain Management for APS. She has also served on the membership committee of ACCP. She received the Long Foundation Award for Excellence in Teaching at UCSF in 1988 and in 2003. Dr. Reisner has been invited to address national and international groups and has publications in peer-reviewed journals such as the New England Journal of Medicine, Neurology, Dental Clinics of North America and the Annals of Pharmacotherapy. Kushida is a neurologist who specializes in the diagnosis and management of sleep related breathing disorders (e.g., obstructive sleep apnea), sleep-related movement disorders (e.g., restless legs syndrome), and parasomnias (e.g., sleepwalking, REM sleep behavior disorder). He is a neurologist, a Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Stanford; Associate Chair, Division Chief, and Medical Director of Stanford Sleep Medicine; and Director of the Stanford Center for Human Sleep Research. He is the inaugural President of the World Sleep Society, past President of the World Sleep Federation, past President of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, and founding President of the California Sleep Society. Dr. Kushida has conducted basic and clinical sleep research since 1977, served as Principal Investigator for numerous large federally and industry sponsored studies, and his research interests include the anatomic and physiologic changes associated with sleep apnea, the management of restless legs syndrome, and countermeasures for sleep loss. He has authored or edited over 300 publications including six books, and serves as editor-in-chief of the journal Sleep Science and Practice as well as the largest publication on the field of sleep to date, the Encyclopedia of Sleep and Circadian Rhythms (2nd edition, 6 volumes, 454 chapters, 827 authors, 3,835 pages).

Dr. Amrittej Singh Virk earned his Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry degree with honors from the University of Pennsylvania school of Dental Medicine, Philadelphia along with a selective certificate in Integrative Pain Management. He has completed an externship in Orofacial pain at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston followed by a 2-year residency program in Orofacial Pain and dental sleep medicine at UCLA School of dentistry, Los Angeles under the mentorship of Dr Robert Merrill serving as chief resident during his residency. He has earned a Fellowship in the American Academy of Orofacial Pain and is Board certified by the American Board of Orofacial Pain and the American board of Dental Sleep Medicine and currently serving as section chair for TMD, Cervical Spine and Orofacial Pain in the American Headache Society. Since 2018, Dr. Virk has maintained a private practice devoted to Orofacial pain management and dental sleep medicine.

Dr. Covello is a board-certified, fellowship-trained oral and maxillofacial surgeon, head and neck surgical oncologist, and microvascular reconstructive surgeon. He currently serves as the Program Director of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Geisinger Health and as an Assistant Professor at the Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine in Wilkes-Barre, PA.

A Chicago native, he completed his undergraduate and dental education at Marquette University (Milwaukee, WI) and medical school at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine (New York, NY). He then pursued an oral and maxillofacial surgery residency at Mount Sinai Beth Israel – Jacobi Medical Centers (New York, NY) and a fellowship in head and neck oncology with microvascular reconstruction at Louisiana State University (Shreveport, LA).

His clinical interests include head and neck oncology, microvascular reconstruction, salivary gland diseases, obstructive sleep apnea, and craniomaxillofacial trauma. Dr. Covello is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, American College of Craniomaxillofacial Surgeons, and the International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.

He holds an ABOMS Certificate of Added Qualification in Head and Neck Oncologic and Reconstructive Surgery and serves on the Board of the Pennsylvania Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.

Prof. Praveen Arany is trained as a dentist and an oral pathologist. He has served as an Assistant Clinical Investigator at the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research, NIH, Bethesda, from 2012 to 2015. In 2015, he joined Oral Biology at the School of Dental Medicine, University at Buffalo, New York, and is currently an Associate Professor with tenure. He also has several adjunct positions in various institutes.

He has over 150 scientific publications with several well-cited papers to his credit. His work has been featured in many mainstream media highlights in over 70 countries, including Fox News, CNN, MSNBC, Washington Post, BBC, Reuters, and MIT technical review, among many others. His research is routinely featured in both print and public media.
He has received numerous awards, such as the NCI Director's Young Investigator Award, Wound Healing Society's Young Investigator Award, Eugene Seidner Scholar, and Horrace Furomoto Young Investigator Award. He has been invited to speak in various national and international forums, reviews for over 100 scientific journals, serves on 9 journal editorial boards, is an Associate Editor in 4, and reviews grants for national and international funding agencies.
Dr. Arany has held several leadership positions and continued to serve in various positions in the Wound Healing Society (WHS), American Association for Dental Research (AADR), Academy of Laser Dentistry (ALD), American Society of Lasers in Medicine (ASLMS), American Dental Education Association (ADEA). He is the immediate past president of the World Association for Photobiomodulation Therapy (WALT) and North American Association for Photobiomodulation Therapy (NAALT), Co-Chair of the International Society of Optics and Photonics (SPIE) conference on Mechanisms of Photobiomodulation therapy and Chair, Technical group on Photobiomodulation, Optica, and Co-Director, Center for Excellence in Photobiomodulation in Nursing, West Virginia. Dr. Arany’s contributions to the establishment of the field of Photobiomodulation include: establishing standard nomenclature, demonstrating a novel TFG-beta 1 activation mechanism for tissue regeneration, and outlining clinical/molecular biomarkers and treatment protocols. This has led to clinical guidelines for treating various diseases and promotion wellness, especially in supportive cancer care.

Mitchell Levine is associate professor of orthodontics at the University of North Carolina Adams School of Dentistry. He instructs residents on sleep disordered breathing, dentofacial deformities including surgical/orthodontic treatment planning, as well as supervises graduate orthodontic residents. He is a Diplomate of both the American Board of Orthodontics and American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine. A contributor to numerous scientific papers including the AAO White Paper on the Role of the Orthodontist and OSA, AADSM Standards for Dental Sleep Medicine, as well as the AADSM Novel Therapies for Preventing, Managing and Treating OSA in Adults and Children. Dr. Wang holds board certification in both the specialty of Orofacial Pain and in Dental Sleep Medicine. She completed her BS in Computer Science and DDS from the University of Michigan, AEGD residency at the University of Minnesota, MS in Orofacial Pain/Oral Medicine from the University of Southern California and is currently completing a Fellowship with the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona Medical School. She sees patients in her private practice in Chicago and supports USC with teaching, research and publications.
